A Brighter Approach to Romance
After two kids, Valentine’s Day sure ain’t what it used to be. It’s better! Before Shep and Delaney came along, Mike and I would be out there with the masses: panicking to make last minute reservations somewhere (anywhere!), getting short-changed on our short ribs, and heading home very much in love but very much over the kind of love that costs $105 a head and doesn’t even come with dessert. I love a good date night and all, but to be honest, I love it just the same on June 8th as I do February 14th.
As soon as the kiddos came along though, I found my Valentine’s Day ennui shifting to excitement. The whole day feels lighter and brighter now. Shep kicks things off by leaping into our bed and settling down between us to talk about life (it’s the only time he’s still so we’re all for it) and Delaney sidles in a few minutes later shaking me down for breakfast. The kids are sent to school with their carefully selected Walgreens Valentines, and God willing, Mike and I get a cup of coffee in before work begins. Later, there’s chocolate, a heart shaped pizza, and more hugs and happiness than I can calculate.
It wasn’t a heady decision, but in honor of our “new” Valentine’s day, I gave the Rose colorway a little make-over. I swapped out those romantic reds and felt drawn instead, toward softer, more playful pinks. Delaney, who is into all things girly right now, is thrilled with her new Spoon + Fork and Paci Clip combo.
Whether you’re feasting on filet or hustling to make homemade cards for the whole class, I hope your Valentine’s Day is filled with love. Remember, you don’t need to make reservations to have fun!
